Used Truck Crane vs Truck-Mounted Crane: Which Should You Buy in 2026?

Short answer: choose a used truck crane when the job needs heavier lifting, longer boom reach, stronger stability and frequent construction lifting. Choose a truck-mounted crane when the job is mainly material delivery, light site lifting, utility work, logistics yards or short-radius loading and unloading.

For most overseas buyers, the best decision is not only "price". It is whether the crane can lift the required load at the real working radius, whether the boom and chassis condition are proven, whether the supplier can show current photos and videos, and whether the export documents match the machine. A cheap crane with an unclear load chart or weak proof file can become expensive after arrival.

A used truck crane is better for heavier construction lifting, plant installation, steel structure work, bridge support work, equipment relocation and jobs where outriggers, counterweight, boom length and lifting radius must be planned carefully. These worries are reasonable. They should be handled with evidence, not sales language.

If the supplier cannot provide a clear proof file, the risk is higher even if the quoted price is attractive.

Use inspection logic from recognized crane safety practice: structural condition, wire rope condition, hooks, brakes, limit devices, hydraulic system, boom sections, pins, outriggers, chassis, engine, tires, control response and visible leaks. For export buyers, also add photo traceability, packing scope and document checks.

A practical test file should include clear photos and short videos, not only a written promise. For truck-mounted cranes, pay extra attention to chassis mileage, subframe condition, crane base, outrigger legs, hydraulic pipes, slewing action and whether the rated capacity matches your normal loading radius.

Choose a 50 ton used truck crane if your work includes heavy equipment installation, infrastructure sites, wider lifting radius or contractor rental demand. Choose an 8 to 12 ton truck-mounted crane if your work is frequent delivery plus light lifting, road transfer, building material handling, utility work or jobsite support.

If you are a dealer, stocking both can make sense: one heavier mobile crane for project buyers and one smaller truck-mounted crane for logistics and site service buyers. If you are a contractor buying one machine, start from your heaviest real lift at radius, then choose the lowest-risk machine with a complete proof file.
